
We kicked a month-long spell of Guatemala City-based languor and headed for the hills in the Quiché department. Our destination was the remote Ixil Triangle, one of the places that remained on our must-see list with only three or four long weekends left in our time in Guatemala. It's not easy to get to, but we've already done easy to get to -- and often twice. Well worth the trip, where we saw dapper hats which are de riguer for the gents, and colorful hair-weaving pom-pom things -- the seasonal must-have for the ladies -- as pictured above. But even better was the warmth and friendliness of the people who have every reason to not think much of strangers after being abused by various out-of-towners for most of the last few centuries.
